The city of Tampa has hired Brenda McKenzie as its director of workforce partnerships and special projects.

In her new role, she will implement special projects directed by the administration and provide support to Mayor Jane Castor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow initiative. Along with workforce development, the program will focus on transportation, sustainability/resiliency, development services and housing affordability.

McKenzie said she will work in collaboration with the business community and established communities in workforce development to create a sustainable and diverse workforce. The focus will not just be on the workforce needs of today, but also anticipating future needs as well.

“All of this is critical because so many businesses, so many entrepreneurs have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said. “This is an opportunity to put a concerted effort, given our current situation, to do the best we can do to meet that need.”

McKenzie has over 20 years of experience building residential and business communities using strategies which have resulted in over $20 billion in growth. She has previously served as the chief business strategist, president and CEO and economic development director with several major U.S. cities.

The position is within the Neighborhood and Community Affairs Administration under Ocea Wynn with a salary range between $89,211.20 and $139,817.60.
